My dad has been on Virgin 20mb broadband for around a month. I have checked his download rate on a couple of speedtests, and they look shite. Can someone confirm what download and upload speeds he should be getting for 20mb.

That doesn't look good but you should try uploading to image shack so the Size sin't reduced

He has contacted Virgin and the guy at broadband support run thru a couple of things. Engineer is coming on wednesday, as they suspect the modem to be faulty.

Can't see your pictures, they're all messed up for some reason.

But your dad could be on 1000mb broadband...they sell it as *Up To*...not just 20mb.

It depends on:

Distance from exchange
Wireing to your house
Wireing in your house
Your router
Filters

Things can be done...I was only getting 2mb for years....I took out an old ring wire in my house, changed my router, new filters and phone box....I'm now getting double my speed of 4mb now.
For the sake of an hours research and an hours work...well worth it.

But remember, you may be far from the exchange, and that is infact the fastest speed you can get.

20mb broadband from virgin shouldnt depend to much on distance from the exchange as it is cable broadband and not phone line broadband.
