As discussed many times, n91 has a dedicated audio chip making it the king in its sound department. (IMHO). I love this phone so much. i mean, so much
recently, samsung announced its F330. and GSM arena quoted, "The device incorporates a dedicated Bang & Olufsen audio chip"
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsu[....]finally_confirmed-news-305.php
How about SE w950's/w960. What chip was used on it? THe roker of MOTO. the new express music of nokia. etc If all these devices have them, then how should we know which one is the best.
Pls dont ans "google it."

The music quality is dependant on the Digital Audio processor or the Digital Signal Processor and Digital Audio Amplifier.
Currently the N91 with the Texas Instruments Audio processor is the king of music. This is followed by all the Samsung U600, it incorporates the Bang and Olufsen Digitial audio amplifier chipset. It looses out to the N91 only because it utilises the main 75Mhz processor for sound output and does'nt have a stand alone processor for music. The icePower chipset is only an amplifier. Then come the ROKRE2 and the new motorola LJ phones which have excellent sound quality but lack the amplifier so its not as loud as the Samsung U600 and N91, then come the other several Motorolas and Sony Ericssons, I dont think they have amplifiers or stand alone processors for sound output. I maybe wrong though.

the new nokias 5610XM and 5310XM have the DAC-33 audio chip too, I'm not sure if it's the same in the N81.

Because people are buying their phones and "think" the music is fantastic, so there is'nt a need to spend more money in an additional chip and damage the profit margin. The reason Nokia are using the Texas instruments DAC and amplifier is because people were complaining about the music quality, now especially in India there is a misconception that SE have the best music phones, when in reality they dont. You'll realise this only if you listen to the N91 or U600 and then compare it with an SE, the SE is totally flat and feels like its missing something.
Motorola on the other hand have incorporated a DAP(amplifier) in their S9 headset, so not many will feel like their phones are lacking that "punch". But the Z6/E2/V8 sure sound good(not loud enough though but the S9 takes care of that).

Just like Nokia lol
Another mobile phone from Nokia exploded these days.
Btw its a good idea if the mobile manufacturers put a digital "line-out"(or streaming) feature in their new high-end phones.I mean they already have microUSB, Fastport and etc. so they could just write the software. This would be useful because you would be able to plug in the cable from the phone into your state-of-art Marantz,Pioneer or etc. DVD/SACD player(which is connected to a multi-channel amp) and listen to the multi-channel DVD-quality audio stream while watching the DVD-quality movie you like. Also, some accessories like mini DAC+amp can be plugged in,which will improve sound quality and power dramatically.(I mean something for personal listening like the Total Bithead ,but smaller(due to high-capacity mobile phone batteries))
I'm pretty sure we'll see these things become popular in a couple of years time(when the market is ready),because they are not that huge technological challenge, but on other hand give excellent performance and profit for the companies which will offer them.
