which is a better form factor?
clamshell / candybar.
looks/appearance don't matter, what's more important is long term usability. would really appreciate the opinion of all esatorians, preferably with a rationale as to why he/she chooses one over the other.

candybar all the way for me. The fewer moving parts, the better. Less creaking, less risk of the moving part falling apart, and simply way more practical as you don't need to open/close the phone 50 times a day just to perform a few basic actions.

With the advent of the THIN lines (W880 etc) the candy bar will win, since the FF is smaller.

However, the candy bar has a problem that has been following all of the CB designs - pocket dust getting behind the screen. You will find that pocket dust will sneak into the phone and onto the screen. Especially after you drop your handset.

well i guess clamshells make a good holder for £20 notes!!

me thinks clamshells are good in the sense that theres no need for a key lock (i always forget to activate it) meaning you don't accidentally make calls

True, butthere is always the automatic keylock?

I prefer the "modified candybar" - i.e the Original P-series, candy bar with a flip!

...you find that the screen in clamshells is protected more from scratches and what nots...but i still prefer candy bar style.

Candybars house better cams, and are a lot better quality.

Candybar style for me but I do also fancy the "candycar" idea from the thread title.
