Apple are giving a $100 store credit to customers who had bought an iphone at the full price of $599. (Becasue they cut €200 off the price yesterday) Imagine SE showing p990i "beta phone" testers some love like this! Would never happen.

I had this very same thought today as I read about what Jobs and apple did. I still feel screwed by:se: and totally disrespected after spending $521 for the phone in April only to see it drop immensely in value a month or two later.

I believe that this behavior and a few others is why would not be able to become the second or leading cell phone manufacturer.
I am on eBay trying to sell my P990i and buy a Nokia n75 right now. Forget the P1. I can hardly even get my p990i to go for $340 with a leather case, $75 4Gb card,extra battery,screen protector and a $110 Hbh-ds970 headset.

That is definitely unfair man.

Dont forget thst the $599 price was only the price oif the handset. You also had to take out a 2 year contract at at least $60 a month. That totals at least $2000 over 2 years. I would want at least $100 credit for that.

Well its either a sneaky marketing move for Apple or they are preserving the sales. After the iPhone fans have got theirs, it might be a bit harder to convince the not so enthusiastic to fall for the iPhones charms as its certainly not perfect, like other devices.

If they have cut the iPhone price and its not for a knee-jerk reaction to a fall in sales then its a wise move. The cheaper the better. I still say the iPhone is good for the industry, others OEMs need to sit up and take notice.

I agree man,totally. In fact I would term these other guys as being slow in response to the iPhone. I think that only two factors will limit the iPhone becoming the number one selling phone of all.

1) Being tied to Apple even after you pay full price for the phone and not being able to do things like buy an extra battery. I always buy an extra battery for my phones.
2) Being locked to a network and having to pay full price plus all those extras. I always keep a Sim for another network.

Also, you have to wonder if this cut in price is not paving the way for a more advanced iPhone which might be in development.

The thing is, other established OEM's have been so busy competing with each other, and dictating what THEY think the market needs that they might have actually overlooked the fact that there is a demand for a device that isn't feature-bloated, but just does the basic things well.

Its a new perspective on mobile communications but I still think being tied in to Apple Corp's way of doing things could be too much of a hinderence for users, too restrictive. You're sacrificing a lot of functionality by going with iPhone.

They would do well to beef-up the iPhone for the Euro market.

I agree that Apple needs to tailor their phone to the EU markets and then work their way to the US as Americans are tied down when it comes to cell phones. If Apple can satisfy the EU then it can satisfy the US.

I think that sales in the US are based mainly on Apples reputation for making things that actually work. So from that position others have to follow and make their mark. This isn't like the PC mark where Apple won't grab more than a 5 or 6 % market share if their product works. This has the potential to shoot Apple to a good 10 % or more in a year or two.


Unfortunately unless they remove their tie downs (which they won't) I am not going to be one of their fans.
I wonder though what and Nokia will do if in a years time the iPhone has sold 10 million phones?

Well to meaure Apple's success in sales is quite wrong at this stage. If Apple's iPhone gains 1% or 2% in global sales then thats a success in my eyes. Being the new kid on the block, its their impact that counts right now and if iPhone sold a fraction of 10% then thats still great but its very competitive right now in saturated markets and all are prepared for it.

It would be amazing for them to grab 10% in even 2-3 years but its a long term plan for them, which it has to be with any new venture of this magnitude.

I imagine they won't expect to turn the market on its head with one device but if they can make people think again about what people want in a device and shake up the market then thats immense and they'll stand a better chance when their next improved device appears.
