My boyfriend has a N70 locked on Orange and he wanted to get it unlocked. He went to the computer fair but the guy had problems doing it as he said something couldn't be read on his phone.

He had been using it on Orange for the pass 1.5+ yrs now but upgraded to a K810 so wanted to get it unlocked

Is it possible to unlock the N70 and does anyone know what the problem could be?

Speak to orange and ask them for the code It costs £20.

The phone will be unlocked correctly.

Ok. So it's needs a "special" unlocking code from Orange unlike you would normally do via cable or codes?

Basically, yes! Just like SEs at the moment......many of the unlocking solutions around are only temporary, known as 'patch' unlocking(the phone's firmware is patched to fool it into thinking it's unlocked, when you update the phone, the lock unfortunately reappears)......
The original providing network should always have the correct permanent code for your device(by law)......

Ah right. The N70 where released around November 2005, so it's not easy to unlock these even now then?

There is supposed to be a free software solution, however, it requires a serial cable, DKU-5.........and these aren't the easiest to obtain(Nokia officially sold them, however they've recently updated their cable to a new one, and I don't know whether it's compatible with the software)......

If you've had it more than a year then they will give it to you for free i think. thats what i did for my n70 but it was vodafone, not sure if it is the same but try and request the NUC code.

I would still suggest you call orange.
for £20 you get a unlocked phone the correct way and it ont relock after,

I have had bad problems when unlocking phones in the pass.

Unlocked my K750i on Orange. No the phone refuses to update the software. When i sent it of for repair, I was told that as i didnt use the correct code the the unlock chip was damaged and was charged for the repair.

Unlocked my T630. Did the update and it relocked. So I had to unlock again.

Im not saying that noone can do it. I know that there are loads of places that can. But for the correct code, then orange is the only option.

Sorry
