I've never used iTunes so I didn't know they didn't already offer ringtones, but for those of you who do use iTunes I thought the write up in this Engadget story was quite humorous!

If paying for ringtone snippets of the songs you already own is your idea of a good time, then get on over to iTunes trust funders, Apple's now serving up ringtones at $1.98 a pop. But they're only $0.99 you say? Nope, remember, you have to buy the rights to the song too. Fun. Keep it safe, kids.

I can't believe people buy ringtones full-stop.

But I guess enough people do, and at far higher prices than iTunes charge, otherwise the likes of Jamster etc couldn't afford all the TV and Magazine advertising they do...

£1.50 ($3.00) or £2.50 ($5.00) each ringtone isn't uncommon in the UK.

Comparing with other legal ringtone sellers, iTunes actually looks cheap.

Although I don't understand why you have to pay again, to use a track you've already purchased as a ringtone. That's ridiculous.
