> P1i and M600 - differences?
Bookmark topic
Hey guys,
just out of curiosity, for the previous owners of M600 and which have become current owners of P1i...
Are there a lot of differences between the two phones, except the camera and the wifi?
Because the latest firmware of M600 was very stable and quick and i was wondering how much better could P1i be...

For me the biggest and noticeable changes was:
* Screen that works in sunlight
* Longer battery life
* More RAM-memory (makes a big different)
* WLAN, FM radio and Camera (of course)
Phone feels in general somewhat faster and the software a bit more stable but as you say the software is more or less the same. One difference is that Fring is supported for IM and VoIP and the standy screen with more icons which is an improvement as well.

It has radio!? I didnt know that.
The Wlan, was not a big deal for me, as i just might use it when i will be at bar/ or cafeterias, however i can live without it!
The fact that the screen is better in the sun, is a great improvement! Whenever i was at the beach, i couldnt read any messages!
The more icons at the stand by makes the phone more practical, as we all wanted M600 to be.
So its also even quicker than the last firmware of M600? That should be pretty fast! I must be like buying a new computer after you were using your old one for 4-5 years! lol

i'd have to say that the extra memory is the best feature. I never had a problem with my m600 crashing so didn't really see the point of the extra memory until a looked at the task manager after a days use on my p1i. Pretty much every application is open (17 in all) and there is absolutely no slowdown at all - in fact using the phone is much quicker because all the apps that i use are already running in the background.
Also as much as i didn't mind having a camera on my m600 - it is nice to have every once and a while.
oh, and the stylus is a few cm's longer which makes it loads easier to use!

I'm previously a M600 user and now an owner of P1i:
Advantages of P1i compared to M600i hardware wise:
1. Better screen in sunny condirion. It's still readable even in 50% brightness in broad daylight (I live in Indonesia), not unlike M600 that is completely washed out.
2. Added 3,15 mpx camera module (albeit the green tint problem, hope it will be fixed in upcoming firmware) with macro feature and business card scanner.
3. Added WiFi module, the same as in P990i.
4. Added RAM to 128mb (76mb free at startup) let's you feel true multitasking in UIQ 3.0
5. Added ROM to 160mb
6. Better build quality (solid feel with alumunium body compared to plastic feeling in M600i)
7. No stylus holder broke problem (I experienced it) because the stylus holder is now protected as in P990.
8. Added LED status light for miss call, charging and incoming message.
9. Better keypad quality (subjective here) with softer edges and more comfortable. Large right and left keys (but unfortunately smaller space '0' button)
10. Added FM radio with RDS feature, and also TrackID.
11. Video Call functionality (VGA front camera).
12. Larger battery capacity for prolonged usage.
13. Smaller, more comfortable and sturdier jog dial (arguable, anyway my M600 broke last month).
14. Better back button, not so hard to push it anymore.
15. Internet button moved slighty upwards.
16. Simpler SIM card slot (not drawer type but now slot in type).
17. Longer stylus.
Software wise:
1. Customizable 16 shortcut in standby.
2. Messaging and Contacts now preloaded during startup (added feature from SE beaceuse of 128mb RAM).
3. Build in VoIP.
Disadvantages compared to M600:
1. Music Player in Main Menu now moved inside "Entertainment", and replaced with "Settings" (Why is it moved there? "Settings" is infrequently used! I'm so used with using Music Player )
2. Memory Stick slot now used traditional enclosure (liked the old one better)
3. A little bit thicker than M600 and heavier (but still smaller and lighter than P990)
4. Fingerprint magnet hell (the front fascia and the rubber backside)
