Anyone know if such an app already exists for SE Java phones? Access the SMS inbox/sent items, then save the SMS to a folder of one's choice in .txt or .htm format?

This must be possible, cuz my K610 was able to download SMS from a relative's W300 using BT Info (awesome app! ) All SMS were saved in .htm format in one file, chronologically.

If BT Info can do it to another phone, it must also be possible for an app to do it locally to a phone where it's installed... or am i wrong??

Sadly it doesn't work that way.

It is not possible to read your inbox/sent items etc from within a j2me app. Trust me on this one - I learnt j2me just to try and do this.

The app you used uses 'Bluetooth AT commands' just like Myphonexplorer and some similar PC apps. It just might be possible to issue commands to yourself through the bluetooth module but it isn't likely.

I posted this technique on the SE developer forums as a possibility a few months back... the general opinion was that its impossible.

Thanks a lot, @charge! Sad thing, especially since the sms in SE Java phones can become unwieldy after a while. (1000 sms, and no way to organize them in custom folders or save them to memory card, except through copy & paste or MPE...)

this is one of those areas where j2me standard api's are yet to be developed.

P1, P990, M600, W950, W960 and the list is growing All touch screens, but I still reckon SE will bring out a hardscreen symbian yet. Once they do, I predict they will bring out a plethora of them.
