Umm, don't think so. Have taken many sun / sunset shots previously with both my k750 and my canon digicam with no effects (that I know of), well apart from some nice pictures

I pointed my k750 cam and also took a pic. Seems to work fine till now. Here's the pic.

my sanyo xacti was damaged when i took a picture of the sun., accrdng to the service center., the censor melted thats why i cant capture videos/picture anymore., they advised me if their are going to fix it it's just like buying a new cam because the censor was expensive.,

I pointed Z550i cam directly at sun and its fine although the sun has a black dot in the middle.
