I’ve just got a new sony ericsson p1i and I’m trying to get used to the new UI after many years using the k800, k750, t610, t68 line.

The UI is excellent but takes a bit of getting used to.

Despite constantly playing with the phone for 4 days I still have a few things to work out

1. where are the best sites for 3rd party apps –

2. any recommendations for good list manager software (like listpro by illium) that will work on the p1?

3. The Light – anyone got a hack to use the camera light as a flashlight

4. K800 and previous models had a secure area for bank account info passwords that was encrypted on the phone and password protected – is there anything similar on the p1

5. according to the manual – hitting the back button (either on the side of the phone or the shiftkey with the stylus) should close an application.
But when I call up task manager I always seem the have a load of apps running even after I’ve closed them? Anyone seen anything like this?

6 How do you voice dial … or is this only for use with an accessory (bluetooth headset etc)?

10 .where can i edit my email signature?

Thanks in advance

I’d really appreciate it if anyone could throw a little light on ANY these queries.

Cheers eske

No.

You can buy a safe app on the SE website

They are still running in the background, you haven't actually closed them unless you do so through task manager. With the amount of RAM available you don't need to either, having them minimised speeds up access time when going into them again. Obviously WLAN and the WEB need to be closed properly after you've used them.

Symbian OS works like that it don´t close the apps, it sends them to the background. If you want to close an app you have to close it in the task manager. The RAM on P1 is so big so you can let the apps be open, then you have a quicker acces to them when you want to open them.

Sorry for my bad english.

Alternatively, if you don't want to spend $30 on Handy Safe, you can do the same as me - which is to use the free text editor jText. I keep my passwords etc in a plain text file which is then encrypted by jText. Also if I store the encrypted file on my memory card, I can access it directly from my P1i or via USB from my Windows PC (because jText runs under Windows as well). And I trust jText because ... well, I wrote it

jText is available from www.freepoc.org

Malcolm

any ideas on the light issue
or where to edit your email signature?

AND anyone have any clue as to whether there is a car kit on the way for the p1 yet? my old SE bluetooth car kit won't pickup the phone book. and i don't mean one of the visor mounted speaker phone efforts.
thanks again
