This might look like a funny or a weird post but its true.

Well last week we overheard someone trying to break in at about 2am. She wantde to scream and I was fast enough to stop her. I took an iron rod and went straight to the door then waited for the un-invited (buglar) visitor to come in but he couldnt.
I slightly opened twisted the key and without much sound the door was opened. He couldnt see that then he tried again and finally poped in. That was when I made my move to the back of his head. He fell and iI nade sure that his knees were both broken so he couldnt escape.

From that day she is not at ease and I overheard her telling her friends that she thinks Im cruel and shes now afraidof me. What do I need to do. I must restore her trust. Please help me

If you did that over here, you would be charged with GBH and thrown into gaol!!

Not that I sympathise with someone trying to break into your house, nor could I condone what you have done, but that said I don't know how I would react to somebody breaking into my house!!

Can't help with the girlfriend bit though! try flowers to start.....

Tell her the next time she burns the dinner she'll get the same, [Joke]

I think you need to explain to her that it was for her (both yours) benefit and that that burglar might have returned a second or third time had you not acted.

Research has shown burglars often return to a previous scene of the crime. This way you made sure he couldn't.

in many countries you would be prosecuted for such severe action

normally only "reasonable" measures are allowed for self defense. Since you haven't mentioned that I assume its diffeent ni Swaziland?

I think breaking both knees wasnt intentional. I meant for one so that he couldnt get up faster than I anticipated.

About the flowers lol. I still want to get the best that a lady can enjoy.

What would you have done if you were me?

Laws of that nature do apply even here. I agree that I took it too far, But hey I was overwhelmed by fear as well and this man was having a loaded gun.

@joebmc the home alone style requires lots of risks and lots of dammage control after the job is done. Imagine the costs lol.

I think I would have done the same but with just one knee. If your loved ones are in danger then you can't be sure in my opinion.

Ask yourself this, how do you know he didn't have a weapon such as a crow-bar or something? How do you know if his original intention was to burgle you? What might have happened had he over-powered you and turned his attention to your girl? Lord only knows what might have happened had he not been temporarily disabled and over-powered you.

You did the right thing. Don't worry about it. Plenty of people would have done the same thing. Me included.
