hi,

i'm considering getting p1 sometime soon and i was wondering how is messages management done on p1? on my k800 i have around 500 sms messages in inbox and almost as much in sent folder and it's kinda difficult to find anything there... well, to be honest the only way is to go through the list manually, which as you can imagine is not very handy;

so what about p1? how it handles messages? can you make subfolders in sent/inbox/etc and move or copy messages there? can you filter or sort messages by date/time or recipient? what about other options?

thanks in advance for your replies;

Yes, you can create additional folders (not as subfolders) and yes, you can sort your messages by date, size, sender and type.

thanks for the reply

if i understood you correctly i can make additional folders in messaging menu to store messages there and they'll be displayed alongside with 'inbox', right?

something like:

Messaging
|- Inbox
|- Inbox-peter
|- Inbox-frank
|- Drafts
|- Sent
|- Sent-peter
|- Sent-frank

can i move/copy messages between folders freely?

thanks again

You cannot copy, but move your messages freely between folders and the folders will be similar to the list shown in your post, while the additional folders are not being merged with the default folders, but are being placed at the end of them.

Besides, there is no overview of the folders like in non-symbian SE phones, but you can only see the folder you've selected and switch between folders in horizontal direction using left & right arrows.

If you would like to get a better feel for the messaging app and the phone in general, try the P1i demo on SE's website.

Try this one:

http://my-symbian.com/uiq3/do[....]name=Magic%20Message%20Manager

With this app your phone will automatically do what you need regarding messages management. For me one of the must have apps.

@koto: I have that one and it's a great app. I have only one problem with it: it's not autostarting which means that each time I restart (and it happens every 2 days at least), I have to open MMM and go to preferences in order to enable the rules and that's not good. I mean, I have to manually start a few programs.
The good part is that you don't have to keep that MMM active - you can kill the program and the rules remain active. That's the good part cuz there's not enough mamory in the P990i as it is...
Hope this helps.

@koto

I think that he is asking about the functions and features of the P1i and not those of 3rd party apps.

That's ok when ppl come with aditional info on programs. A man knows his choices better.

yeah, i was asking about the functionality that p1i provides out of the box but it's indeed good to know that such app exists; once i have my p1 perhaps i'll give it a try

thanks for your replies

You can use BootMan

http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/software/item/BootMan_UIQ3.php

to autostart programs when your phone starts up. It does slow down the boot speed though which is annoying so I guess you just have to weigh up your priorities.
