Hi,
I'm looking forward to buying Sony Ericsson P990i for its WLAN & good multimedia features & its reasonable price for the features. I've a few concerns now:

(a) It has only 802.11b, not g while the place I work & live has 802.11g access points. Will it work? I don't mind the speed of 802.11b
I searched for this question in the forums, but still couldn't come to a clear-cut final answer.
The link below says it may not be possible in general

(b) How good is the camera and multimedia (sound quality)?

(c) What are the pros & cons of Symbian over Windows Mobile?

(d) Are there any better choices? My usage of WLAN & Internet will be occasional for now, but might need in future.

If the access points at your work place operate in mixed mode (i.e. both B and G) then it shouldn't be a problem.

With the latest firmware I would say that the camera is as good as you can hope for with a 2 MP CMOS sensor, i.e. comparable to the K750i. Video recording (QVGA@15fps) is better than with the K750i. The old problems with autofocus have been solved (for photos - not video!). And the Media Player is very good if you use a good pair of ear plugs or cans. But note that the phone does not include a 3.5mm stereo plug adapter. You need to buy this separate.

Better web browser and better Bluetooth stack but slower Office suite and problems with lack of memory.

Better? Not for the same price. But the HTC TyTN (i-mate JASJAM) should be dropping in price now, as the TyTN II has been released. So if you don't need the FM radio and don't mind poor support for A2DP (stereo Bluetooth handsfree) then this could be an option.

Ask someone at work to change the router settings to 802.11b+g.Internet browsing is superb using WLAN on this phone.Camera on P990i very good.Video-Just ok but not spectacular.Music player just lacks volume but overall good.Cant compare Windows Mobile, never owned one.Loving my P990i but would say be open minded before purchasing a new phone.Technology has progressed.

Folks, I'm not sure if I can really ask my office folks to change the wireless settings for me, 'cos its corporate policy. However, i can do it for home.
Also, some posts online probably meant that after I get my firmware upgraded, it can work on 80211g networks as well. Has anyone tried that yet?

Hi!

The P990 works only on 802.11b network. Read the manual!

wifi G is not supported; for WM there are some how 'emulators' or something.
which allow you to connect, but still have B speed/connection.
i'm not aware of this sofware to work with UIQ
