> what happens when your phone gets stolen?

Hi guys,
i was just wondering if your phone gets stollen what does your network do to that phone, i know they bar it but is that only if it has the sim card that came with the phone in it or do they do it but IME?

well all phones's IME s are archived in data bases...and when you report your phone's stollen,they block your IME...
i think
my operater (as the only operator here) stopped archiving IMEs in a short period of time,and in that period there was a huge drop in phone prices...

My less-than-one-month-old K810 was stolen last week, and my carrier said that there is nothing they can do. I was SOL.

The best thing to do is to first register your phones' IMEI and put a password for your phone as well so that it does not work with other SIM cards.If you tell the cops your stolen phone's IMEI number they can trace the calls made from that phone and get the exact location.

Some providers offer insurance aganist steals but you must have a post pay plan (that's how it works here in dominican republic.
My phone got stolen (w810
) and i did not have any plan, so there was nothing i could have done. Just remember this, next time you buy a phone, keep the IMEI # someplace safe, that way you can block your phone from being reactivated. thats all you can do.

The UK police have better things to do rather than chase round after every stolen phone reported, if every stolen phone was tracked down they wouldn't have time to sit around at the side of the road waiting for a real crime to happen (Speeding 4mph over the limit AT 3am). The networks now shut the phone off at the IMEI level in the UK, and it is also illegal to change the IMEI.

I say non-sense with this operator lol. They just refused to hel you and they look for a higly sophisticated way of turning you down. It is very nuch possible to get the phone locked if it is stolen. All you need to do when you fet a new phone is to retain all the proof reciets
This is h how it heppans in Swaziland. If you have the prooving information you just into the police station and make a statement. They will provede you a lettre that you will take it with you t6o the operor.
In the mean time you can ask the operator to block it before running to the cops for the document.

In England it's the other way round. You call the cops, report it stolen, get a crime number from them, then contact your operator who will de-activate your SIM card and block the phone at IMEI level.
You don't need to keep a record of your IMEI number because your operator should have it on record. This is one of the reasons they ask you for it when you register a new PAYG SIM or take out a contract.
