Hi

I'm deciding on buying a new phone. Primarily a music phone that can take the place of an MP3 player.

Good sound quality & earphones, good (expandable) space, easy file transfer are musts.

While I'm open to more suggestions, I've come down to the SE W830i and the N73 Music Edition. (w830 because no 3G here nor do I need it)
They both cost 16000 Rupees (around $400) here in India right now.

The W830i looks great (stylewise) and, of course, is a Walkman phone with much praise on its sound quality. I hear it also comes with a 1GB Pro Duo card.

But at it's hefty price, it doesn't seem to have enough features to match. Hell, even the A2DP ability has been stripped away compared to the 850i.
I also hear it's camera isn't praise-worthy, but camera isn't too much of a concern.

Then there's the N73 ME (which looks a bit boringly simple). The smartphone capabilities make the price look somewhat worthy at least. I think it also comes with a 2GB card (max limit ).

My main concerns are that I've read things about it's music quality not being too great... and the included headset is said to be mediocre. Is this true?
That and I also hear about the sluggishness/hanging of the phone that I seem to read about too often.
A little slowness, I'm fine with... but is it like super annoying? Even after firmware updates?
And what about the joystick? >_>

These are my many doubts on the two phones. I've been very tempted with the W830i, but I'm wondering if it's worth the price. But if I get positive responses with the N73 ME, I'll go with that then.

So, I'm waiting for insight from all you experienced people!
This is actually going to be my first mobile phone.. so help me decide well!

N73 hands down! One of the most popular Nokias ever. Great phone, great sound quality. Granted the supplied earphones arnt great but you can always change them

Get the N73! Keep in mind that SE cripples its products with firmware "updates", and expects you to buy the newer models, which probably will also be ruined by future "updates".

You can do a little search and find out about "Walkman HissŪ", and how SE turned a deaf ear at the people it cheated.

So definately get N73, much bigger screen, symbian, 3.2 MPixels Cam with autofocus. You won't regret.

The N73 seems a better option but its joystick is just too bad to use... But then again even the W830's D-pad is also bad... You can use any headphones in N73 ME but I can't say if it sounds louder through headphones... I think you should try out a N73 ME... If you think its good for your music requirements then go for it...

a symbian os fone is definately over the w830 imo. however the pic quality of n73 is quaestinable imo, u can have more fun with it, as with a simple w830

@ManiacalAce
Well, I believe you already have your answer looking at the responses. But if you're still having the tiniest bit of doubt, then it's probably the design factor your dwelling on

Wow, all responses going with N73

@Mode: You know, I think that's true. I think it's just that sexy design that's sorta pulling me towards SE.
But the N73 does give value for that kind of money.

I also didn't know about the Walkman Hiss thing. Thanks for the heads up.

So can anyone recommend me good earphones for the N73? >_>
The 2GB limit also makes me cry T_T Can it ever be increased?

I hope using eAAC+ won't kill quality too much? Bitrate 128 of MP3 to 64 of eAAC+? Will that give similar quality?

Just these final questions now!
