> Will P990 Video Autofocus ever be fixed?
Bookmark topic
After several hours of tinkering, erasing, formatting, moving, and importing..I have finally brought my P990 to full functionality. It works marvelously and I am 99.9% pleased. However, the video recorder is absolutely useless ever since the auto focus was taken from us several updates ago. The ONLY solution that the numbnuts at SE have offered, is for me to send my phone in and have them do a hardware fix. Why would I do that? So the next firmware update will just crash the autofocus again? Why are they ignoring this very important issue!? I have waited months for them to fix this! Are there anymore firmware updates coming up? Dare I hope, that MAYBE they will address this at last...

I am one of you who thinks that the video function is now useless without autofocus. Unfortunately the boat has sailed for us, the last firmware is R6E28. We made a wishlist of bugs and things to correct before they reluctantly came out with the last one, and when it finally came out, we saw that the ignored a large portion of the list, including video autofocus. I think it is downright sadistic to not only take back something they have given to us and has gotten used to, but also to ignore us, the end-users, the people who put food on their table. This is because they'd rather trust an appointed 3rd party phone testers who barely touches the phone rather than us who knows the phone inside and out (literally), and depend on it in most of the things we do.

I think it's sw related and they had to take it out. I sold my p990i but never been bothered too much about it. I admit, the video quality has gone from ok to shit over the last updates. So, no other update.

What I can't understand is that, in the old FWs autofocus was working... why SE took it off????!!!!!

@701
I don't think it is software related because it works perfectly the same as before, I had a play with an R4B03 last week and there was nothing wrong with it (video capture-wise no doubt), and I started missing the feature again. I still think SE inadvertantly screwed up the function and never bothered to fix it. They never bothered to fix anything, remember what was different between R6D23 and R6E28? They just fixed the darned spacebar bug. Auto Frequency for RDS was not fixed, and this is something they advertised! So imagine the deaf ears they'd put on our other inputs.

Well it has to be software related to an extent otherwise it wouldn't have disappeared via firmware upgrades.
Maybe they had to sacrifice it in order to make room for other fixes? The firmware has a maximum size after all.
Having said that, the bulk of the necessary code for video autofocus should presumably be very similar if not identical to the autofocus system for the still camera so yes, it is rather strange.
Bad programming?

Even if it is a sw issue, taking away a feature to fix something else is a poor excuse and unacceptable. Is this how low SE has become? Unbelievable how we keep taking these things in

Finaly,at least some of you have realized, how useles SE is, especially after teaming up with Sagem. Motorola, Samsung and even Alcatel are better when it comes to customer service.
