Are you using USB cable and Sony Ericsson PC Suite? Or are you connecting via Bluetooth and PC Suite?

I am using the usb cable provided, I wanted to do a full backup as well so bluetooth was not really an option.
In the device manager it does seem to have the 2 SE USB com ports added as well. I have tried changing their com numbers, but it did not help.

Maybe your problem it's not related, but here's some knowledge for new Vista users:
Vista has a security layer called UAC that many old setups and applications can't handle properly.
You can fix most installation problems making the setup.exe "Run as Administrator", a new menu setting available when you right click the setup.exe
You can fix problems like the an installed program forgetting it's settings, making the same trick but on the installed application icon.
Finally, to install old drivers, you can try installing them as a "Legacy Driver".

Uninstall all types of antivirus / firewall-software. Then uninstall all eventual syncsoftware for other hardware, like palm pilots and stuff. Then reinstall PC Suite. It should work.
