> Z710i - slow out of standby - normal?
Bookmark topic
Hi
I'm a complete noob to Sony phones and don't know much about mobiles in general, so sorry if this is obvious.
After about 10 seconds of key inactivity, the screensaver comes on, then after another 5 or 6 secs the main screen goes totally blank. I assume this is normal behaviour?
What bugs me is that once in standby if I press a key it takes about 12 or 15 seconds for the display to reappear. Is that normal? If I close and open the flip it takes the same time. That's incredibly slow!! Any way of speeding it up? Is there a special key to press that brings it up quicker? Or can I at least delay entry to standby?

hi and welcome!
the first thing is normal. now, what i dont understand is why it takes so long to come back from standby. this is not normal as far as i know. maybe it is a bug or an old firmware. try to update it.

Thanks or replying, Jay.
Could the coming out of standby delay be caused by the SIM card not being for the correct network? The phone is locked to O2 but it came (from Ebay) without a SIM card so I tried a Virgin SIM in it. The main screen now says "Emergency calls only". Perhaps on coming out of standby the Virgin SIM is looking for a signal or something and delaying the process.
I tried unlocking the phone for other networks with software and firmware provided by GSMliberty, but it hasn't worked and their customer service is very poor. They just keep telling me to follow this instructions that I already followed!
No one else seems to offer online unlocking for this phone - not at a reasonable price, anyway.
Cheers

Solved it! The crap instructions from GSMLiberty.net about how to flash the firmware caused me to miss out on flashing the file system - they only tell you to flash the main FW. That's why the phone was so slow out of standby.
I flashed it using Wotan generic firmware and it started behaving normally again, except it was still network locked. So I took it to a computer shop and they unlocked it for 12 quid.
The whole unlocking and debranding process cost me about 24 pounds, so not too bad, but I could have done without the many hours of worry and frustration!
