My PC is connected to the internet via cable, but it has Wlan, just like my p990. I was told I could use my pc's internet connection via wlan rather than bluetooth. I believe it would be faster or am I mistaken? Culd also be file transfering done vian wlan instead of BT?

As for file transfer, yes it would be millions of faster than bluetooth, but as far as internet via both methods, they are almost the same speed.
File transfer is only going to be slower, thats the difference between WLAN and Bluetooth.
