> how do walkman phones compare?

I have a stand a lone walkman player, one of the latest versions that also plays video etc.
I am really impressed with the sound quality from it.
My question is how does the latest range of walkman phones compare i.e w910?
could i really do away with my stand alone player?
I have tried a walkman player on w660i but it really wasent as good as normal player. Is this just down to the quality of the headphones supplied?
is this where the big differences are noticed?
maybe i should try the headphones from my stand alone player on a walkman phone

Hmm... New Sony Walkman with support for video playback? Should be the NW-A800 series, methinks. The other possibility would be the latest one that supports drag-and-drop, but I can't remember the model offhand.

but then i did say that about my k810i when i used some walkman headphones on it.
this is a league above that though. i wondered if the latest walkman 3.0 player on the w910i would sound this good with a set of headphones from the nwa-a806

i just wondered because normally with most of these products the standard headphones that are supplied are cr*p! Just take the ipods for example. The first thing anyone says you should do with an ipod is change the headphones.

Standalone mp3 players will ALWAYS be better than cellphones at the moment. Think multichannel AV receivers versus stereo amplifiers. Mobile phones have to accommodate camera, video, phone calls and internet connectivity which in turn spoils sound output. The new sony mp3 players are actually slightly better than ipods. I had a thorough test and I can say it with complete accuracy.

you're definitely on target, mate. stand alone Walkman players or any other music player for that matter are indeed better than phone music players, technically-wise. this is because of hardware issues like amplifiers, speaker specifications, etc. simply, these could not be easily accomodated in a small device such as a cellular phone. nonetheless, this would ONLY be true somehow to those branded players like Sony, etc. still, i appreciate it a lot that somehow my own phone Walkman unit could satisfy me with decent and above par delivery of my choice music. in any case, the thought of pairing whatever player one has (stand alone or phone) with a high-end speaker system or headset would definitely boost the performance rating!

FYI:
Walkman 1.0 is really basic in terms of its menu system. W800, the flagship model sports this.
Walkman 2.0 is basic plus Album Art, etc. It is integrated in W610.
Walkman 3.0 has almost everything, from the basics to Song Recognition via Gracenote.

I personally own a W850i with a 4GB memory stick duo and absolutely love the sound quality (I think it has Walkman player software version 2.0 on it and even supports playlist creation ON THE PHONE)! I sold my 8GB second generation iPod Nano after purchasing it and haven't looked back since! It streams music wirelessly via Bluetooth A2DP (like to a pair of Sony's own HBH-DS970 headphones), and I even listen to it over my car stereo with an fm transmiter like I did with my iPod before I sold it! I'll soon be suplementing my listening habits with a bluetooth enabled car stereo deck, negating the need to use an fm transmitter! Can your MP3 player do that?... Jump on the phone Walkman ship already, and sell your stand alone player, I promise you won't regret it! I hear that new W910i will support up to 8GB of storage too via memory stick micro!.... Tempted yet?...

I definitely agree with you, mate! Lately, my wife noticed that I'm not even turning on my own personalized sound system in my PC. Guess I am really satisfied with what my humble W810i can give me heheheh. I love it! I'll try to post a mini-review of the SEs that I was able to have through the years including my W810i...
