its time for me to upgrade my handset, but voda UK arent stocking the P1i. i really like the w950, that i currently have and am drawn to the p1 as my next phone. having been out this afternoon, it appears that the only network i can get a p1 on is O2.

if i were to take out a new contract with them, can i unlock the handset, as i can only get network coverage for voda and orange at work??

otherwise, i think my only option is to take a free upgrade from voda, sell it and use the money to purchase a p1 from SE.

any advice people can offer is appreciated.

I doubt the handset will be locked anyway.

I'd keep with Vodafone and do as you said. Upgrade to a new handset with them, sell the phone and then buy a P1i sim free, then you won't have to have 2 contracts running at the same time, saving you loads of money in the long run.

mPhone have them for £299 sim free

if i were to take out a contract with O2 i would end my contract with Voda, but keep the sim and number (on PAYT).

I think i will probably buy the handset sim free though, as the deals with O2 are looking pretty weak. its going to cost me at least £7 per month more than i currently pay, for what seems a worse deal all round. the only benefit is that i would be entitled to unlimited free O2 - O2 minutes (and i only know 1 person on O2) or unlimited free texts. but i dont text that heavily.

obviously with voda, i have stop the clock, (60 mins, pay for 3 out of my bundle!) and passport activated. hopefully i will be able to talk them into making me a sweeter deal by staying with them for another year.

do you have any recommendations for a voda upgrade that will have easy and high sale on auction site? i have been advised nokia and SE are a guaranteed easy sale. obviously looking to take as much as i can, and as close to £370 as possible.

also, what sort of price do you reckon i could get for my W950i? this one is only 3 months old (insurance replacement as i lost mine in a car crash) and has been network unlocked.

O2 phones are unlocked. My g/f upgraded to a P1i and sold it to a guy on the 3 network. His SIM worked fine.

thats good news then,

do O2 'network brand' their phones at all? if so, can it be un-branded easily?

AFAIK it will be lightly branded by O2 though I could be wrong.

This however is easily overcome by debranding the phone for free using SEUS as posted in the Symbian threads!

O2 phones have no branding whatsoever. There is the O2 startup screen, that's it. The software can be removed by flashing online with the latest SE firmware.

Unfortunately that's not entirely true, the branding placed on the UIQ phones will inhibit the device from being able to upgrade to the latest software by a few months, so it is always wise to debrand your phone and set it to the world Generic CDA string in order to benefit from firmware releases as they happen instead of waiting!

ok then,

so which phone, that i can upgrade to on voda, is going to have the best sale value?

and where would you recommend i buy the p1i from? obvious choice is SE, but that will be £375 ish. have found it sub £300 but as i have bought a handset only i don't know what companies are to be/not to be trusted.

cheers.
