> MapViewer - An offline map viewing midlet
Bookmark topic
I remember this being discussed a while ago. A midlet for viewing offline maps on your phone. I was using a software called Virtual Pocket Map but wasn't pleased with its performance so I decided to create my own one. Now, it's done! And it's free of course
Features:
1. Smooth scrolling on newer phones (Successfully tested on k800/k810, I find it to slow on k750/w800/w810)
2. Virtually unlimited map size
3. Instant 4 step zoom control
I also created an application called MapViewerCreator which creates MapViewer midlets from images file maps (various formats).
I provide a midlet with the states of US on the website as an example (only free royalty free map I could find).
Website:
http://mapviewer.matlista.se - download and install instructions
Comments or suggestions are very welcome!

Cool

Try it out and tell me what you think. Remember to install the midlet in your phone memory. Also tell me if you have any questions when it comes to using the MapViewerCreator

yep it works great. there is a bug, for example the canvas size seems huge even when a small image is loaded. Also it would be great to have the option to select maps from within the phones file system (using the app itself)
Also a means to bookmark different parts of the map.
Even without those I'll still use it, but those extras would be extra cool.
I used Google Maps to create my map of brisbane.

The canvas thing is actually supposed to be that way, for now that is. The software doesn't contain any data on map size but works it on the fly. I could stop it from scrolling to far. Next version maybe
I've been thinking about the point of interest saving thing myself and if there is a new version it will definitely be included.
Loading maps from the file system... I'm not sure that it's going to be fast enough but it might be worth trying. However, having one midlet per map will allow you to start it faster.
All good suggestions

use google maps + screen capture + image editor to create your own map images, then use the j2me mapviewer utility to create your own jar maps from those images.

Hey guys, I'm having trouble executing the program. This is what I get.
C:\MapViewerCreator>mapviewercreator.exe "C:\vancouver1.jpg" "Greater Vancouver"
The system cannot execute the specified program.
Can anybody help me out and point out what I'm doing wrong?

put the image inside the same folder as mapviewercreator.exe. And make sure the path to the image is correct.
