As a new to the smart phone world, I thought of asking before buying. I would like to hear simple facts (no Jargon pleas) about
· Ease of use
· Email and Web browser
· Multimedia
· Application variety
As I said, I am interested in the soft ware not the hardware at the moment. Thanks in advance.

UIQ beats all Windows in easy of use.

In all the rest, I think Windows beats UIQ.
Simply because of how many settings there are to tweak around, which creates a more flexible machine.

Downsides of this: Too many settings + Too many tweaks + Too permissive OS (DLLs, etc) = Unstable machine

Resolution and software avalability in Windows is far superior too.

You choose:
Do you want a Phone+PDA (easy of use), or a desktop PC (complicated) in your hands?

I am wondering about the ease of use since a device like the htc S 710 has both key pad and qwerty keyboard in a normal phone size dimension, another thing is that UIQ is complicated when it comes to WLAN connection.

Think like this:
The UIQ is halfway between a regular SE phone and a WM6.

On the WLan topic, I have no experience yet, but as pnf1973 correctly posted, "WIFI is a horribly complex beast"

But the ease of use as a general in UIQ is better?

In one short answer: Yes

One simple comparisson:
I'd say at least 80% of WM6 applications are not usable without a stylus, while 80% of the applications on the UIQ are usable by using only your finger/nail.

On the WM6 side, I'd say this is because the resolution increases with every new model.

LAU,I know you want to kill me now but I find it strange that a device with more capabilities ( except the camera and 3G) like htc S710 is far cheaper than the P1. Thanks anyway

With my experience with a p990i and a tytn2 i can tell that UIQ have a more appelative interface and the phone functions (Calls,SMS,Contacts etc)are more easy and faster to use than WM6 but on the rest WM6 beats UIQ (web surfing, msn messenger, a lot of applications, no bugs or crashes, faster etc)

I have owned both WM5 and now I own a P990i with UIQ 3. I will definitely say: UIQ 3. Much easier to use!

Ha. My exact feelings on WIFI and networks in general are not repeatable in a public forum such as this. How about "WIFI is a *&^%$£"!!$"£%!!! load of !"!!"^^%$$^&**&%$£^%&^%*** that nobody actually understands?"

On the subject of WM6 versus UIQ i'd say both have merits and both have their problems. Personally I'm more in favour of UIQ over both s60 and WM - although its current incarnation is something of a pig to code for. The basics are there for UIQ to really develop into something special - the question is if the new touchscreen s60 devices that are on the way will work as well as UIQ, I suspect the Nokia have really stolen a march on both Microsoft and SE with the development of its interface being able to actually touch the controls directly may well lead to UIQ being the next PALMOS i'm afraid.
