Hi, My pc had a power surge which caused it to not work after being fixed my cd drive wont work when i went in to the device manager on the cd drive icons there is a exclamation mark in a yellow triangle when i click on it the message below comes up any ideas
Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

Try a repair reinstall using your XP disk. This will load a clean registry without deleting all of your stuff, although it's best to back up your photos, music etc. first if you can . If your not sure how to do this safely, then don't!

To be honest though, if your PC was hit by a power surge then it's likely your CD drive has fried and you'll need a new one

Cant do restore as the cd wont play recovery disc

I'm too used to chucking new drives in whenever CD players pack up! Chances are it's fried anyway
