OK, so I attach my K800i to the USB cable plugged into my computer and enter file transfer mode. The computer goes doo-dup and I have a screen come up "Open this folder with" and I choose "View files in folder" and all is well, I can access my memory stick as usual.

But, when I exit that window and want to get back into my memory stick, I go to my Computer and double click "CPM2" which has a removable drive icon beside it. Instead of opening it as a folder, for some reason Windows thinks it is a file and opens up the "open file with..." window with a list of things to open it with (Photoshop, Word, Notepad etc).

I cannot right click and hit "explore" either, because in the usual "open" and "explore" locations in the right click menu are crazy arabic letters, as though the file/folder/drive is corrupted. But it's not.

Any idea? I've got XP service pack 2, K800i with latest firmware.

This is only a temporary fix too because it'll all be sorted once I get my 2GB M2 Micro stick and an adapter so I can just go through a USB all-in-one thingy. But it's a pain in the ass for now!

Appreciate any help. Thanks.

hi

i've seen this with usb memories, but not with memory sticks. well, you can try this:

on windows press start =>run and then type the letter from the device(like this e: or f:).

@humph

this is what I basically do to avoid similar kinks (yup, met such before):

if you're connecting your fone when your PC is on, choose File Transfer mode, wait a while for the PC to recognize the phone memory and the memory stick (often with flashing messages asking you to view files therein). you can start your business right after this...

or,

you can connect your fone "before" turning on your PC: the PC would recognize your fone in its Phone Mode, which is just alright.

The difference between a File Transfer mode and Phone mode is that you won't be able to use the usual phone functions in the former since both the phone and MS memory are recognized by your PC as removable drives. In Phone mode, the fone functions as itself and file transfer is possible.

Hope this info helps, mate. Enjoy your SE fone...

Ah cheers. So i've been turning my phone off, then connecting it to PC while the computer is on, and it goes into file transfer mode. But all I want to do is transfer photos across, and I don't actually need to use file transfer mode but instead I can just use 'phone' mode, which means I don't have to turn my phone off first. Right?

That's much easier. Thanks for your help!
