I thought I would start a thread with any information about debranding a K850i.

I did this for the UIQ3 phones and it worked well: http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=130758

Does anyone know if its possible yet? Any information at all will be appriciated

Cheers

Have in the past hour debranded my phone using Davinciteam to R1CA029 CDA1201-9794, and then used FOTA to update to R1CA037! Worked really well, first thing I noticed straight away is the photos seem to save much quicker!

Please could someone explain the benefits of debranding? I have an O2 branded K850i and have heard alot of people wanting to unbrand their K850i's however I don't know why.

Debranding allows you to get the latest firmware as it's released by SE.

Operators will normally give you branded handsets. With these, they approve firmwares as they're released. In some instances, they don't approve firmware and you're stuck with the firmware they give you i.e. different icons, some functionality disabled, etc.

I went for this one as its the UK Generic firmware for the Blue trimmed handset:

K850i R1CA029 CID52 K850 1201-9794 CUSTOMIZED UK/ BLUE WESTERN-EUROPE

It costs €10/£7.50 which is for 10 credits which is all you need to change to the above firmware

an aside for those lucky enough to have O2 handsets.

They don't normally have much (if any) branding on them, unlike say
Orange or Vodafone. They are generally unlocked too !
