> P800 not a new phone?

Do you think the p800 will be old compared to the new mobiles that come soon with 3G etc?
Or will p800 still be one high quality, new phone for some time until a good 3G phone with a correctly working 3G network is in place ( im aiming mainly for sweden but global is intresting aswell )
etc.

p800 will be out in 1 week, 3g will have to pull an awfull lot of customers to be widespread within the year, add to that the fact that peoples contracts are for a year so the transition will be painfully slow at best. p800 has a good 1 year innings i think.

Well Iv grown pretty found of the p800 from all Iv read and heard.
The thing that makes me a bit scared is if I get this phone and within shortly I could have spent my cash on a more advanced phone.
Thought its always like that the phone always get outdated just maybe now with 3G and p800 being so much delayed the phone will get older faster?

I'm worried about this too, i've seen that some companies have started testing 3g in the US and if they are going to have 3g phones on the market here in a year or so then it may just not be worth it to spend the money on a p800. but of course its going to take much more then a year to start seeing 3g devises. i'm thinking its going to be a while before any one of us can actually touch them.
man, i can't wait for this stupid phone to come out already. i've gone from histraical anticipation to frustrated anger and now i'm thinking i want to kick SE's ass for not giveing this too me sooner. damn them, JUST GIVE US OUR DAMN PHONE!!!

www.tre.it (it is in italian, but available also in english) and see for yourself.
3 is a company that is starting 3G RIGHT NOW, and already has a deal with Nec and some other manufacturer to deliever phones.
They might not be "pda-phones" as the P800 is, but they are capable of receiving and sending video, video-calls. Location Based services (roadmap, restaurants), download games, real time goals of a couple of major italian soccer teams, download and play music (I don't know exactly, but I think it is like on the internet "streaming").
The P800 was a good phone, and still is of course, but it is no longer worth the money you pay for it.
And to those who say that services for 3G will not be available immediately, I suggest to check the mentioned site. All I listed are features that will be available from the beginning.
Not bad
I don't think P800 will get a good market share because it is a product intended for people who can spend and also are interested in technology. Those people are called "innovators" or "early adopters" in marketing terms and they are exactly the ones that are likely to change to 3G as soon as it comes out even if it is not perfect yet.
What do you think?

Can all you G3'd up peeps please be a little more concise with what you are saying, maybe if you test run the phone and connection for a few months and then start pestering us about it, so I guess your replies will be in 2...maybe 3 years? LOL

After testing the "3G" services from Sprint Vision and NTT DoCoMo, here are my thoughts. Sprint Vision is unreliable as a global communication device. While 1XRTT is great for current use, the speeds are comparable to GPRS networks. NTT DoCoMo faces the same issue. While their FOMA networks are state of the art, they are still missing key components to good communication. Battery life is horrible compared to standard GSM coupled with GPRS. With this major disadvantage, a once mobile device is less mobile. It's true that content may be streamed at a faster rate and such services such as video phone and high speed data are possible but the perception of value may be a bit skewed. As much as I love having faster speed and better content, I don't think I could sacrifice the battery life of my P800 to achieve such means. When EDGE is released, I'm sure we will all have this chat again. Hopefully 3GSM will be able to provide services without sapping the Lithium-Polymer battery life as drastically.

honestly, until i see it, i won't believe it. This whole 3g thing cou;d be wonderful but i'm going to guess we'll have to pay throught the @ss for it for about the first 2-3 years, much like using cable/dsl internet. new technology rocks but it always costs so damn much.
