In a new sony ericsson press release about k850 and w910 coming out in the UK the term "video light" showed up in K850's short description right beside main camera functions.
"The K850 Cyber-shot™ phone is equipped with a 5 megapixel camera with auto focus, Xenon flash and Video Light that together help produce true digital camera results."
Does anybody know what this "thing" is? I've read through the k850's specifications and whitepapers but found nothing.

Its a light that you can turn on for lighting dark areas when recording video.

Like a led?You can't just turn on xenon flash. Would the k850 then also have the "torch" function?

Look at the pics carefully - the K850i has 2 flashs.

One is a xenon flash for pics and the other is a led flash like older se phones had for videos and as a torch.

CHARGE is 100% correct

just tested it out

the larger XENON flash is used for taking photos
and a smaller led light is used for the torch function

the led light is also used when using auto-focus to focus the camera (like k810i's red light)

3 LED's, actually

They're used for video recording and as a torch

the led light is also used when using auto-focus to focus the camera (like k810i's red light)

So you mean to say the K850i no longer has that red light of K800/K810, and that it only uses the LED light to auto-focus in dim environments?

I hated K750/W800's LED light when it's being used for autofocusing especially when taking pictures of people, because they complain that it's blinding (and I agree). K800/K810 handles this issue very well by using that dim red light instead (something that dedicated digital cameras also use).
