Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am lucky enough to be the proud owner of a Sony Ericsson K850i and think it is fantastic!! My only gripe, and I guess it could be counted as a serious one, is that the damn thing has shut down and rebooted itself whenever I've tried to log onto Google Mail, Hotmail or run the 'slideshow style' application (I forget it's trademark name).

Has anyone else come across this issue? I've tried the Sony Ericsson Update Service and it states that the software on my handset is the most up-to-date, etc.

Cheers!

A.

i experience the same thing before especially when i'm accessing the media menu. i tried performing master reset, but the problem still there. i decided to go back to the store where i bought my unit. They replace it with a new one. So far the unit i got now is stable.

Is your K850i branded? I found out that branded firmware tends to be unstable. Thats why I always buy unbranded phones. It costs (maybe) a bit more but its worth it.

Hi all,

Thanks for the replies - while I hope you people get yours sorted it's good to know I'm not on my own with this issue!

indup ~ strange eh? Sounds like a software fault but as yet there are nu updates via Sony Ericsson's Software Update Service!

luwi ~ I think I'm going to visit the store I got mine from tomorrow so hopefully will get mine replaced too!

LCARS-Expert ~ Sorry tobe a div but I assume by branded you mean like by the network right? i.e. is it a Vodafone only handset or does it have T'Mobile stamped on it? Mine doesn't, to my knowledge it's an open handset.

Regards,

A.

I guess my price gripes are now even more valid! It's obvious that the FW isn't resilient, so as was the case when the W810 came out, there will (or better yet) ARE service impact bugs which will be addressed in time via the FW update process.

I recall my W810 dropping calls and rebooting at random times on the initial FW release. I think it took about 2 or 3 updates to stabilize the mobile.

Sorry guys - $650 US dollars for a phone that reboots for no reason.. NO WAY!!!

I have to say, everything else is not just as expected but WAY BETTER than any other phone I've had before (including the K800 which was awesome too!). I don't wanna get into the whole X vs. Y debate from model to model and manufacturer to manufacturer but I didn't think any other phone looked as good, was as stylish, compact and had as many awesome features as the K850i which was what made the decision for me!

I have friends who have got this phone too and they haven't had this issue, but I also recall having had other phones, not even just Sony Ericsson, which I have had issues with at first too. I guess this is just part and parcel of using equipment considered to be the cutting edge - you might occasionally find faults (which will be rectified by your Networ Provider in most cases!).

I would also point out that I wouldn't pay £400 (around the $650 mark) for it either, or any phone really, but I got mine free on a 12 mth contract so I'm happy as!

Over.. )

Happened twice in 4 days.

I've only had this issue when it's searching for signal (when coming out of tunnels ect).

The K850 isn't a smart phone it's a dumb phone, smart phones tend to have these problems and even they shouldn't, look around the forum and for a newly released premium priced device far to many seem to be having various problems.

@all

Before anyone jumps down my throat i am not singling out SE other manufacturers are also guilty of this and IMO it needs to stop but only we the consumer have the power to do it.

Return your device and demand a replacement until you get one that is fine. Why should anyone have to put up with it and wait two or three months for it to be fixed when you have paid top money for your device you should get what you have paid for.

Marc

@Dogmann

I disagree that it isn't a 'smart phone' - remembering that it isn't designed to be AS effective at surfing the web as a laptop on wireless broadband, isn't designed to be AS effective as a palm pilot/blackberry for keeping up to speed with your e-mail, and isn't AS practical as an iPod for using as an MP3 player then it's basically a top of the range mobile phone with a good few handy, funky and cool gimmicks (such as the 5MP BestPic camera, video recorder, etc., etc.)!

I don't spend a huge amount of time in this forum or any other to be totally honest but out of the people I know personally who own one (some work colleagues and others close friends) I've only heard of one other person having a glitch! In my case, the Network are giving me a new one straight out the box to replace it tomorrow and have apologised for the inconvenience caused - that'll do for me!

Don't get me wrong, I'm not wanting to start a huge arguement about it as everyone's opinion is valid in my eyes - but I wouldn't start writing the K850i off as a failed experiment just yet! SE have been streets ahead of any other manufacture for a few years now as far as I'm concerned. I certainly know of more people who've had issues with the Nokia N** range than have had with the SE K*** range.

REMEMBER ~ that's my opinion, I don't claim to be right or wrong!! ;o)
