SE have made Sony Ercisson Media Manager available for the K850 and later SE phones. I've been testing it out on my K800. It's not a bad app, with some useful features, but it's always slow reading your music (either phone or hard disk).
Then something strange I noticed though, whenever I click music (to view my pc or phone music files, my firewall tells me SE Media Manager is trying to contact
http://www.apple.com! So because I'm blocking it the app slows down while it times out trying to contact apple.
wtf does Apple want with my song usage info? And why is SE trying to give it to them?

@Max Wedge
That really is very weird indeed and not an alliance that makes any sense either, especially as now Sony have ditched ATRAC and have a rival service. I have no idea who you should ask but someone should explain why your personal Data is being used in this way without either your consent or knowledge. Questions should be asked and answers given IMO but good luck with that.

Mmmm, that doesn't surprised me in the least. A lot of this 'information sharing' goes on.

@dogmann, I hope it hasn't installed a rootkit! I know I come across sometimes as blindly SE fanatic

but one area where I do find SE almost completely incompetent, is in their software department. Their effort is much like OpenMG (or Oh My God) or SonicStage - clutzy, proprietary and bloatware. They must outsource their software to Sony I reckon

Just an amateur thought: Maybe it's trying to READ track info from Apple? What you need now is a packet-sniffer.

why should it read track info from apple?
Apple collect song list info from itunes users, so I'm inclined to believe they are paying Sony for the same information. Also, the Sony Ericsson Media Manager is crippled - the video transfer and re-encoding is only available if you buy the "Pro" version.
It also tries to connect to software.sonypictures.com when you start the app.
This app is crippleware, spyware, bloatware and shareware all in one!
The program is copyrighted to Sony Creative Software, and is basically a rebadged version of the PSP Media Manager software. So I was right about it being outsourced.

that's what makes it even weirder - since SE media Manager also uses gracenote, so wtf does it need apple for?

@max_wedge
That is puzzling as you would think the only reason it would need to connect to anything would be for song info and that that would be Gracenote, like it uses on TrackID.
However, if a track or ringtone is only available to purchase on iTunes then maybe that is what it is searching for - so it can 'recommend it' to you.
