how do i know i am in a hsdpa coverage area on O2? whenever i connect to the internet on my phone, it never seems any faster even when the 3G symbol is on or off. is this to do with settings?
also i have different internet profiles on my phone as follows
O2 mobileweb
O2 postpay GPRS
O2 wap
what are the difference between all these (if any) and whats the best one to use?

I'm not even sure that 02 have a HSDPA network up and running yet as i know they had to update their EDGE network for the iPhone. But i would call 02 and ask them these questions first. Also you don't say if you are a contract or prepay customer which would also help with answers for you.

hi thanks 4 the reply, have the w910i. yea o2 apparantly do have a hsdpa network, the only reason they may have been updating edge is cos thats all iphone can support.

Well as far as i am aware i have seen no mention of the W910 having a symbol for HSDPA but on some Nokia's only during Data transfer it shows 3.5G icon instead of 3G.
I am not a 02 user but definitely not the Wap profile, unless an 02 user responds i would think the the Mobile Web connection seems the most logical. But again i would advise speaking to 02 to check as one may be included in the Data bolt on whilst the other may incur additional charges and i would say it is better to be safe then sorry as it may end up costing a lot.

I tihnk the symbol shown when connected via HSPDA is either 3G+ or H-.
Apparently O2's HSDPA coverage is "virtualy non-existant" according to one article I read, which is a shame if true. Their 3G coverage isn't great either!
Regarding which access point to use, O2 Mobileweb will use the fastest connection available, either HSPDA or GPRS, depending on your coverage.

O2 Wap is a connection that allows your mobile to go on any wap site / Net browsing (through the phone)
O2 Mobile web, is the connection that you can use to use the phone as a modem connected to a PC etc.
O2 postpay GPRS Is for PAYG O2 and is a dual connection from Wap and MMS.
I use O2 Wap when browsing through my phone or collecting my emails via o2.
I use o2 Mobile web for browsing when i connect my K850i as a modem to th computer.
I pay £7.50 a month on contract for a 200mb fair usage bundle and it covers both o2 mobile web and o2 wap. (I very rare connect the computer unless im at friends and they dont have net or i need drivers to connect there modem to the internet or if my web is down for some reason.
Regarding hsdpa on o2. Sorry to say but its in short supply, to be honest its none exsitance, 3g on o2 is in short supply so getting hsdpa is probaly in possible.
o2 is the only network with the poorest 3g coverage, to be honest its shocking to say the least, Ive asked and asked and asked until im blue in the face. I have seen no improvement in the last 9 months. As per the Web i should get it in certain citys i go to, which i do but its still poor there and most of the time its on gsm to 3g.
They have paid a lot of money out for 3g and im still waiting for coverage and i live in a town.
I wish they would sign some sort of agreement with another network to share there 3g coverage. Any would be better than what i get now.
This is now the only thing that is let down by o2. The reason i have been told on many occasions is that not many people use it or do video calls, My argument is and still stands, How can you say this when you don't have a network that people can use it on!!
We can only hope and pray that o2 do something drastic in next 12 months about 3g?

O2 PostPay GPRS is NOT for Pay as you go, it's exactly what it says, POST PAY, which is PAY MONTHLY.
Mobile Web is also the connection used for XDA's and other full screen smartphones as they will always download the full page rather than the WAP version.
O2 WAP is just the standard GPRS connection.
And there is no 'dual connection' bollocks, you have an interenet connection and an MMS setting for your phone, and they are seperate. MMS will use whichever connection is available to it via the mobile network.
