> [P1i] Automatic connection 3G > wifi?
Bookmark topic
Hello
I use activesync push emailing all day long, being connected to wifi when I'm at home, and to 3g or gprs at work.
When I'm at home in the morning, I'm connected to wifi, and when I leave home My phone automaticly connects to 3G/gprs ->OK
But when I go back home, my phone stays connected to 3G/gprs, altough wifi network is available. I have to manually disconnect it to reconnect to wifi.
Furthermore, if I switch off the phone connected to wifi, it connects automaticly to wifi when I switch it on..
My question:
Can the phone automaticly connect to wifi when it's in 3G, or is it just possible in the wifi -> 3G way ?
(sorry for my english)

It will always re-establish the connection to your active sync server using the internet accounts in the order they are listed in the internet group. Hence, when you startup - or exit flight mode - your p1 will connect to your wifi. When you leave range of your home wlan it then forces a reconnect which then falls back to 3g/gprs.
But, because your 3g connection stays on it doesn't attempt to reconnect to your wifi when you get home. The only way for it to do this is to force the connection closed so that it re-opens it and then attaches back to your wlan.
I remember seeing a app that claimed to do all this for you, but I never investigated it because I thought it would consume rather alot of battery by re-scanning the for available wlans all the time. I think i found it by googling for "always on email p1" or something similar. The app was a paid for app, btw.

Thanks man, that's what I thought. By the way, it's not that annoying to close the 3g connection manually (2 clicks). But as a geek, I miss that fonction (but don't want to pay for that)...

Well, we all want some profiles support for the P1, so that you could (hopefully) switch between connections easily using timers or calendar events etc...
It'll happen eventually, I have no doubt.

Yes, that would be great
I have another brief question: Does it drain the battery to have wifi activated but not connected (grey wifi icon)?

Yes it does drain the battery to have WiFi on, but not connected (gray icon).
However the drain is very very small and makes almost no impact on battery life (too small to notice).
