How does this work then, the 'backlight' setting are not very clear. The in-phone help states 'Auto - backlight switches on when you tap the screen, press a key or receive an incoming call.' the important bit is 'After about 30 seconds of inactivity, the light switches off'.

Well sorry guys the screen backlight does not switch off, it dimms, and I can still read the display.

Does this happen on other phones?

I am trying to track down the reason for such appalling battery life.

I tried to update my phone on Thursday but the SE updater software said I was running the latest release.

I've been having the same problem. It seems to go away when i restart the phone but comes back after a while. Anyway, i've just updated my phone so I'll check back if the situation has improved.

same bug. phone switch off and on helps, sometimes helps only when you do it twice.
can't find any reason at all.
latest firmware.
