> Damned update screwed up my phone

I just updated my phone and to my horror, my phone just refused to let me restore the backup i had made before performing the update. It just keeps failing. So fine, i begin to manually reconfigure my phone. And now for some reason, apps that installed fine b4 now fail some "security check" thing even though the expiry date is like a year away. Any ideas how to fix this?

How did you update it. If you had updated the phone via SEUS, you wouldn't have needed a backup of any sort at all...

are your apps you using hacked or cracked,
because i updated my p990 and i had the same problem it was like sony ericsson had stopped you installing hacked or cracked software, like they did with the Sony PSP back in the day,

Yes, I used the SE Update Service and it did hard reset my phone.

Nope, both applications are the trial version: Oxford Dictionary for MSDict, for which I have registered and LCG Jukebox.

How does the restore fail?

It gives me an error message saying the restore has failed and under the report/details it just shows me for the phone and C: notes, C: contacts, etc, etc failed. I had 3 previous backups and none of them would work. I tried restarting my phone, taking out and replacing the battery, etc and it still wouldn't work.
Anyway, i found out what is wrong with the application installation problem already. Quite stupid actually. It seems that the signed apps I was trying to reinstall have a start date for their security certificate and after being reset, my phone's date was also reset and actually before this start date. I was expecting the date and time to have been synchronized together with the rest of my PIM stuff.

I had a similar problem but in my case the IMEI number had changed and the fw was R6D23 whereas the previous one was R6E28. I was able to modify the PC registry, replacing several occurrences of the old IMEI with the new one and changing all occurrences of R6E28 with R6D23, after which it worked.
Since you have the same phone, I am guessing that the problem is caused by PCSuite. As a first course of action, I suggest that you try to restore contacts, calendar etc. one at a time and don't restore third party applications.
Unfortunately this is not the first time I have heard of this problem and the PCSuite is to blame for it.
If everything else fails, format and reflash your phone.
Good luck.

Well, I've since manually reconfigured everything and reinstalled my 3rd party apps by hand. *sigh*. What use is a backup program if it can't even restore anything...
The worse part is, some of the bugs i've been experiencing are not fixed by the latest firmware:
1. WLAN - Searching for available APs often fails to find anything the first time. I need to re-enable the WLAN or try searching for specific APs or a combination of the two before it will find anything
2. Everytime I restart my phone, my time format (12hr->24, yyyy/mm/dd -> dd/mm/yyyy) will be reset
After updating:
Phone: CXC162037 R9H004
BT: CXC162143 R1D
Organiser: CXC162156 R6E30
CDA: CDA162024/95 R5A

Thats strange, I have same firmware and wlan seems to work fine, as does the clock.
Maybe you have a faulty unit?
