Um.. read this (esp. last sentence):
Earlier this month, ChangeWave Research conducted a mobile phone customer survey which concluded that of the 3,645 US iPhone owners surveyed 82% reported being Very Satisfied with their purchase, up five points since the previous survey in July and by far the highest rating of any mobile manufacturer. iPhone market share climbed to 2% (from 1% in July), the research revealed. The research also found that 16% of respondents who plan to purchase a phone in the next six months plan to buy an iPhone - placing Apple up at the top among all manufacturers.
Although Motorola remained the leading mobile phone manufacturer with 30% of the US market, its dominance fell one point from 31% in the previous survey - suggesting Apple stole the most market from Motorola. Motorola (33%) was next to last among mobile manufacturers in customer satisfaction, with Sony Ericsson (31%) at rock bottom.

even knwing i luv america...i might move there 1day...maybe!...there tech is behind every1 else...cause luk they still think the v3 is a fully spec'ed phone and the think the iphone is fully spec'ed im not saying the i phone sucks...it has an awesome screen and the ui luk awesome, but it u cnt hve 3rd party apps and it only has edge...so they really dnt knw wat is gud...they wud rather hve a fashion phone than a high tech phone,

Bottom line - Americans aren't exposed to SE, since 3G, GSM is only beginning to take off. T-Mobile, ATT are heading the charge, but most of the handsets in US are stuck on older tech.
As an American who swaps out his SE handset every few weeks (I'm an insider), I can report that Americans - especially the younger set LOVE the SE designs and I get many compliments on whatever is the latest. The W880 and T650 are killers!
If anything, SE has huge potential here as soon as GSM gains some traction.
As far as Americans being behind the tech curve, I should remind the audience that an American company is currently 2 capacity points ahead of the competition in MS M2 - soon shipping 8GB!

I try to tell them but they all make up things like W300 is worth $700AUD in shops and is the best phone apart from the iphone. When i showed them the W910 one said "It probably won't handle mp3's i'll get a w300, (now this is the funny part) if i can afford it LOL LOL LOL

3645 people surveyed.
30% of those had a Moto, that's 1093 people.
33% of those were satisfied, that's 360 people.
2% had an iPhone up from 1% in the previous survey, that's 73 people.
82% were satisfied, thats 60 people.
That's very low market penetration compared to the iPod or iTunes.
16% surveyed plan to buy an iphone next up. It'll be interesting to see if the do. If they haven't so far, I'd say price and percieved value is probably the problem. Will these people still buy an iphone when they see the W910i/W960i/N95/E65 ?
SE's result is of concern, are these people P990 owners? The info available doesn't say...
