> Motorola loses market share

Motorola's mobile sales plunged 36% year-on-year as shipments hit what analysts describe as a 'lackluster' 37.2 million units in Q3 2007.
With just 13% share in the quarter, the gap between Motorola and Samsung widened. Mobile segment sales were $4.5 billion (£2.2bn), down 36% compared with the year-ago quarter.
Mobiles incurred an operating loss of $138 million (£67.2m).
The troubled manufacturer's share has fallen dramatically over the course of 2007, down from over 21% last year.
But Motorola improved on its second quarter shipment of 35.5 million handsets. Motorola continued to stabilise with over 900,000 RAZR 2 devices shipped. Strategy Analytics' Neil Mawston said: 'This is helping Motorola to stabilise revenues and profit. Operating margin for the handset division came in at an improved minus 3%.'
Motorola reported total sales of $8.8 bn (£4.3bn) for the three months to 29 September.
'We are pleased with the improvement in the financial performance of mobile devices and we look forward to building upon the progress we have made,' said Ed Zander, chairman and chief executive officer.
