> UIQ3 viruses have started to appear?
Bookmark topic
I came across a post which struck me as an interesting discovery in this thread:
http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=157900&start=15
It describes of a trojan named Symbocom that resides in the "other" folder of the memorystick which causes the P1 to restart constantly. I'm just wondering if anyone else has come across something similar. If so, would it be high time to install an antivirus software in our UIQ3 phones or are the chances of getting infected still too remote for my concern? Last I checked, Mcafee's AVmobile was the only compatible program for the platform, and it's not supported here in Malaysia. You guys know of any other alternatives?

Really? Just remove the memorystick before booting...

(a) Why would anyone create a "trojan" that restarted the phone continually? What would anyone gain from that?
(b) How could this "trojan" make the phone do anything, just by existing in a folder on the memory stick? Surely it would have to be executed in some way?
It pays to be sceptical with these things... there's a huge anti-virus industry that would just LOVE people to believe viruses are rampant in mobile phones so they can make even more money, and every bit of misinformation and paranoia brings that day a step closer... personally I think it's highly unlikely that anyone is targetting UIQ3 and even less likely that they've found a way to do it like this.
Bear in mind that a PC virus checker looking for PC viruses might well misinterpret any mobile phone files it finds on a mobile phone memory stick..

usualy trojans/ viruses are beeing tested with a small issue;
eg a reboot, just to test if the infecting system works.
if it's beeing passed on correct etc.
whenever this is true the writer usualy changes it's name of the tool and it's purpose.
this is when things get nasty.
most software you'll download as warez(cracks/unregistered software)often comes with a free trojan/virus.
just download a free scanner like AVG (i prefere) or ClamShell (requires less resources) and can your downloaded 'mobile warez' i'm almost shure it will detect some odd software which doesn't belong on your HD.
so double check your downloads, and dont comfirm untrusted resources.
this way you'll be quite safe
