Hey there everyone, just like to say how great this forum is. I think i'm really going to get into this stuff. Anyway, on with the question;

I'm on a contract with O2, and they have enabled MMS on my phone. Since they have done this, however, i have noticed that I am now able to use WAP via GPRS. Hooray! But...

Am i paying anything to be using this? I rang O2 and he said they definetely aren't charging for GPRS yet, but i think he may have been getting confused with the "proper" HTTP GPRS access, which I obviously haven't got. I only have access to WAP via GPRS, but seeing as it doesnt dial-up like a normal GSM WAP connection does, and the guy said they aren't charging for GPRS (because it hasn't officially been enabled), do you guys think I'm getting charged everytime I use WAP via GPRS?

Also, will I be getting charged for GPRS access everytime I send an MMS (this appears to use a GPRS connection also)? In my contract there is no info about GPRS allocation per byte or anything like that. And I'm using the NowMMS server.

Nice and detailed answers would be really appreciated on this one folks, I have a few friends who would also really like to hear the answer to this one. And if it turns out i am getting this stuff for free, then that's just too cool.

Cheers, JD.

Hi,

I hv a T68i on O2-UK contract.
I hv confirmed with O2 and Singlepoint4u (billing company)
and YES, MMS and GPRS (WAP, dialup using PC/Laptop) access
is free till end of Jan/2003.

I had very little trouble getting MMS and GPRS WAP working.
But I only use the O2 server not the NowMMS server so I hv
no idea about the charges if applicable.

But so far I hv had little success with Dialup Networking form PC
using GPRS.

Hope this helps.
Cheers.

I pay for gprs wap access even though I get the free mms on 02. I pay for the 1mb bundle (about £7 I think).

I always try to use wap within my free minutes on the standard gsm connection if I get towards the top of my 1mb.

Just goes to show o2 communication on charges beyond end of jan is non existent. Perhaps they hope they can rake in the revenue as users use wap gprs at the same levels not realising they are being charged This post was posted from a T68i

The prices are a joke, pay-go is 2p per kb
lllllllllooooooooooolllllllllllll!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you equate that to a landline connection, 5kb/sec
that means if they charged at GPRS rates it would cost
10p second!!!! to download, £6 minute!!
So GPRS pay-go is 60X more expensive than landline pay-go.
A 30kb animation will cost you 60p to download!!!!!!!
