the usual reason here is when you don't use standard English characters because foreign characters require more space than english characters

presumably you are writing in Spanish with letters specific to the Spanish language?

there is only one letter which is different our "ñ"
the rest is the same, same alphabet!

any non-latin charachter will convert the whole message encoding to UTF8 ( thats AFAIK )

I don't know about Spanish but in Arabic if the message contains any Arabic character then the character counts will be reduced to 70 charachters only, whether they all in Arabic or only one charachter...

the reason is the system specify the encoding in the begining of the message, so if you writes any non-latin char. then it will automatically convert the encoding to UTF8 wich uses 2bytes per char., and coz the original SMS have 160 bytes and the SMS header ( to let the phone know it's uses UTF8, it's hidden from you ) uses about 20 bytes

160 - 20 = 140 / 2 = 70

Which should I choose?
and, I have found an update for the w950 but it is Nederlands...if I do it, can I add Spanish later, with the improved software?
