Hi,

I currently have the K800i, and to be honest it's feeling a little dated now and I want something a bit new.

First I thought about the W960, but to be honest I'm not too keen on the look of the phone. Then I thought about the K850, but now I'm thinking about the P1i.

Initially I was put off by the keys, and that brings me onto the first question. When I had a look in the shops, it looked like it could be difficult to text on, what with each key having two letters on. Is this the case or is it easier than it looks?

Secondly, are there any crashing issues? I had the P910 which I didn't have a single problem with, then I got the P990 which I had no end of problems with, however just before I got rid of it there was a firmware update that showed a lot of improvements in the stability - from what people have seen, is the P1i stable?

Third - the camera. I'm happy with the picture quality of the K800 I have at the moment, and as the P1i is the same 3.2 MP I'm guessing the quality is pretty much the same (although I do appreciate it doesn't have a flash, image stabilizer or 16x zoom).

Fourth - the video recorder. One thing I was extremely disappointed with on the K800 is that it only recorded in a very small resolution, and the camera quality - despite being a 3.2MP - was loads worse than my old W900! Is the resolution and overall quality of the video recording better on the P1i?

Fifth thing, on my K800 I can set a video as a contact ringtone - can this be done on a P1i?

Sixth thing - and this more of a general question - in the Music Player, how can you get the album art on the screen? Where does this have to be copied to on the phone?

Finally - and this kinda ties back into the controls - is it easy to use. A bit of a vague question I know. You see, I wish SE would release a smartphone where you don't have to use the stylus to be able to use all of the functions (It pains me to say it as I hate anything Nokia, but more like the N95, where everything is available through normal functions without a stylus). With my P990 I used to end up touching the screen with my fingers because I couldn't be bothered to get the stylus out for very simple tasks.

Thats all for now, any answers to the above would be great!

That's a lot of questions, and I'll answer them from my perspective.

1. Initially I was put off by the keys, and that brings me onto the first question. When I had a look in the shops, it looked like it could be difficult to text on, what with each key having two letters on. Is this the case or is it easier than it looks?

---> I love the keys, I can type an entire document quite fast on these keys, and if you have normal sized fingers, it's a breeze after one or two days of getting used to it. I reply to long tech emails and type out documents on the go with this thing. I think whoever came up with this idea, was genius.

2. Secondly, are there any crashing issues?

---> For me, the P1i is very stable, hasn't crashed except once where I tried to install some 3rd party software, but in most cases it was super stable. The extra RAM makes it that much more stable than the P990, and the system doesn't have to close applications in the background to run a new program. I can have upto 20 applications running at the same time without issues. When you install 3rd party software, you might expect crashes, but that depends on a lot of issues, its hard to just blame SE for it. But otherwise, quite stable.

3. Third - the camera. I'm happy with the picture quality of the K800 I have at the moment, and as the P1i is the same 3.2 MP I'm guessing the quality is pretty much the same

---> Now there's a disappointment. I had the K750i with a 2mp pictures and its pictures come out clearer and brighter than the p1i. The p1i camera does have a flash and a host of features including picture editing. I hope SE will fix this, don't get me wrong, the camera is good, just wish it would get clearer colours, and it also has a greenish tint towards the right side of all images. I seriously think if SE doesn't fix that, we should sue them for issuing a faulty product and charging so much.

4. Fourth - the video recorder. ... overall quality of the video recording better on the P1i?

---> video recording is good, and records at 320x240, 15fps. Not great, but vids are not really that bad for a phone. I will take some and post them on facebook/youtube so you can check them out at some point. Or I think you might find vids on youtube taken with the p1i.

5. Fifth thing, on my K800 I can set a video as a contact ringtone - can this be done on a P1i?

---> Nope!! I didn't know you could do that, that would've been cool!!

6. Sixth thing - and this more of a general question - in the Music Player, how can you get the album art on the screen? Where does this have to be copied to on the phone?

---> using the provided software and some other 3rd party software, (check on this site), there's ways to do that. Not really a big deal to me.

7. Finally - and this kinda ties back into the controls - is it easy to use.

---> this depends on the kind of user you are. But a lot of the functions are definitely accessible without touching the stylus. You can set the zoom to increase size of contacts, the UI etc. so they are more easily accessible by fingers. Its got a back button, a scroll (jog) and select button, all accessible by the thumb (if you use it on your left hand). The bottom of the screen gives you 3 more virtual buttons. There is a shortcut button on the right that you can set to your liking. I have it set to task manager for easy switching between programs. I hardly use the stylus myself and have trained myself to find the shortcuts and buttons to all the features using a combination of qwerty keys, side buttons and screen. It grows on you.

I have an early K750i and a P1i. The photo quality of the P1i is much better than that of the K750i.

The P1i is a great phone- an adequate PDA, stable, stylish, easy to write on, ok camera, ok features.

Myself, i find I can only see the green tint when I take a picture of a blank, plain colour. Now I don't know about you, but are you really gonna do that?

I have used my p1 to take pictures whilst on holiday and stuff and then printed them out. I was very pleased with the results.

The important thing to remember here is that my last phone was a p910, which was awful at taking pictures, so I guess i'm easily pleased. I'm also not a digicam expert nor a frequent picture taker, just a average user. To me the pictures taken with the camera are bright, clear crisp and I think very nice when printed 6"x4". I'm sure lots of users would disagree with me but then I never expected my p1 to take professional quality pictures.

I find the device to be stable too, and fast with the new firmware, its also easy to use one handed in nearly all cases. The UI was never really designed to be thumb friendly - I think we're gonna have to wait for the p3 for that - but its pretty good. Like benjijk I hardly ever have to pull the stylus out, again, having come from the p910 I was very impressed with that.
