Hi,

Have had my P1 for about a month and so far fone but twice during that time it has unexpectedly shut itself down. I leave it on charge overnight (sometimes with a music track last thing, sometimes not) and twice it has shut itself down, requiring a battery removal in order to reboot in the morning. This is worrying as I rely upon the alarm clock. Has anyone else experienced this and if so any suggestions ?

Cheers

Update your firmware. What version are you running?

Did a SUES update 2 days ago and then last night the phone shut itself down whilst plugged in to a wall charger. Interestingly yesterday (whilst browsing web and listenning to music an incoming call arrived at which point the phone rebooted with a "The phone is rebooting to improve efficiency" or words to that effect type message !!.

Any suggestions ??

Well what is your firmware version? I have never had a unexpected shutdown and only a couple of performance restarts.

Its possible you have a faulty unit.

Cycovision had a problem like this with a p990, it came down to a loose simcard. I'd check that it hasn't become dislodged somehow...

It's normal from time to time that the phone will shutdown due to unexpected error. However, it is not normal for the phone to consistently shutting down.

What I would do is to track what software is active when the shut down occured - and try to disactivate as many software as you could (end task) prior sleeping. Since the error occurs overnight while you're charging - a problem associated with it may be possible.

If that does not resolve the issue - reformatting the phone to its original state (back it up first) would definitely remove all software issues. And if that does not resolve the issue, I suspect that the problem might be from the hardware of which you should report to SE.
