Hi all new to forum I was wondering if any Mac users out there could show me how to set up a WIFI connection from IMAC 24" 2.8GHz with built in Airport exteme wireless. I have a billion 7402R2 adsl router which is sharing the internet to wireless card if I set it up right. Basically I am new to macs and new to networking, I have had a P990i for about a year now and was connecting to the net via bluetooth on my old PC windows XP but had no range. I have tried and read alot but no luck. Any help is great.

Just kidding.. So, you're trying to connect the laptop directly to the router, and then use the modem on the laptop to share the connection? There's probably some sort of usable wizard for ad- hoc networking in OSX, so that would be your best bet, I think. Was it "Create network(!)", or something like that?

So is your ADSL router wireless then?

If so, then make sure it can be seen (don't hide the WLAN from view) and then Turn on Airport (it's the 'fan/cone' looking icon towards the top right of your screen). Your wireless network name should be shown, so select it and input any security codes you may have. If you're using WEP, then try putting '$' in front of the WEP code if it doesn't work first time.

Hi guys thanks for responding. To answer some of the questions ADSL router is not wireless I am trying to use internet sharing from ethernet to built in Airport card. Unfortunately there is is no usable wizard I can find to set this up.
I am not using WEP it's just open to start with till I can get this bleeping thing to work.
I'm not sure if there is a setting on the Ethernet router that is stopping me receiving data. The P990i sows it's connected but no data get to or from the phone to IMAC?

It's been a while since I used osX, but I'm pretty sure there's a networking wizard on the airport- settings somewhere.

..Anyway, as long as you're connected with the laptop, it shouldn't be a problem on the router, if you can't connect with the phone.

you go into system preferences and then click sharing. then check internet sharing and you choose your conection method. in your case it would be something like: share my conection from "ethernet" to computers using "airport". this is valid for leopard, but i remember tiger being quite the same.
