I currently have a W950 and I was wanting to upgrade to a P1. Will 3g work with the P1 in the states? I am a subscriber to t-mobile and their network will be on the 2100 frequency.

@Charge426

Simple answer I'm afraid not the P1 doesn't support the US 3G band.

I thought T-Mobile was using a brand new 3G frequency. I doubt the government will let them use the 2100 band.

Good point i didn't read it properly, it won't work on any of the available 3G networks as yet but the T-Mobile one is not up and running yet as i understand it and not even sure they have announced the band they have been allocated yet.

Oh i know its not up and running yet, but everything I have read states the band they will use is the 2100 frequency.

"T-Mobile USA CEO Robert Dotson announced T-Mobile's move into 3G service at a press conference in New York on Oct. 6.

Dotson reported on the results of the company's recent spectrum auction win, including substantial space on the 1.7 and 2.1 GHz bands, and the expansion of available spectrum in the company's 1.9GHz voice bands. Dotson also announced the start of equipment deployment for UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) data access."

So will it work? I'm just going to stick with my W950 if it doesn't as it isn't much of an upgrade if the 3g doesn't even work.

3G frequency bands deployment:
* 2100 (downlink) / 1900 (uplink) for Europe and Asia (usually referred simply as W-CDMA 2100)
* 2110-2155 MHz (downlink) / 1710-1755 MHz (uplink) for America (e.g. T-Mobile)
* 1900 / 850 (independently, for both the uplink and downlink) for America (e.g. AT&T Mobility)
* 900 for Europe (not yet implemented)
* 800 for Japan
* 850 for Australia (Telstra NextG) and Brazil (Telemig Celular)

it is not sure that 1900 can be used as uplink.

Yeah i started to get that once i looked around a bit..

So what's on the horizon? None of the current releases look like much of an upgrade to the W950.
