> Firmware scare!!

Hi, i am not sure whether this is a rumour, but hopefully someone here who is a firmware expert can enlighten me on this.
'I was told by a SE staff that it is possible to write a program which can be incorporated into a handset when firmware is in the process of upgrading, this program can be set to detect the joystick counter or miss/ reject calls counter where once it reaches a certain no. the phone will begin to cause problems and turn faulty. This is done mostly on illegal sets in order to discourage ppl from using handsets which escaped taxes.'
The quoted statement was what i heard from a colleague who had just visited an SE center for firmware upgrade. But i have no idea of how true it is.
Thankyou!

sure.. it can be done... but firmware upgrades at authorized

servicepoints are done against a

server, and really... why should

servicepoints implement such things?

if they do it, it will probably not take long before

can track them down....
but when upgrading your phone by yourself using firmware you download from the internet you can't be 100% sure what the firmware contain...

Any criteria on how to know whether the firmware updated in the handsets are modified or comes with damaging programmes? Maybe like maybe slightly decreased internal memory in T68i after firmware upgrade?
Thanks again
