Hi,

I've been quite unsatisfied with the p990 since day 1, and thought that Htc Tytn2 would just blow away my SE device.

After a full week using the Kaiser, i just returned it back as my user experience was worse than p990 (never thought i could write something like this).

Many issues, having the gsm working ok, calls lost, poor sms management, so many network connectivity that the device keeps changing between edge/3g/hsdpa...total non sense.

I put my sim card back in my p990 yesterday, and must say that i was really happy to get it back...

I'd never considered the p990 like this before, and am now quite satisfied with it, while still looking for my next device (samsung i780, p3i, or maybe s60...)

thats a shame. the switching between edge/3g/hsdpa is probably a network issue rather than a phone issue. I travel every day 45 minutes each way to/from work and see only a couple of switches each way as we go through rural areas. In London and my hmoe its rock solid hsdpa. I guess P990 will seem more stable as out of those three, it only support 3g!

Can't say I have lost a single call nor have I read this as an issue either... again it sounds much like a network issue.

Can I ask if you kaiser was a network branded one or a standard TyTN II?

I recently switched from my trusty, reliable M600i to a Tytn II and I have to say... I don't look back for a second. Surely the only reason the Tytn switches between connections so often is that it has so many more available? It's just giving you the very best available wherever you are, something none of SE's UIQ devices can do, to date. Aside from the changing icon in the toolbar, I don't really see what the inconvenience is!

GSM is fine for me too, no problems with calls or anything like that, I've tried video calling for the first (and probably last time), basically everything works exactly as it should. I'm running the HTC rom mind, after debranding my originally vodafone-ised V1615.

I'm happy enough with the SMS and general messaging management... but what's great about this phone is the opportunity for customisation. If you don't like how the standard inbox works, there's all sorts of options out there to change it - I've seen free threading apps, extensions to menus to add various functions, and all kinds of other things. What impresses me most about Windows Mobile is the way you can make it work exactly how you want...

ouch! that ain't good at all, well at least you are back with what u belive in

i have swoop my trusty, best ever SE phone i used in P1i, believe me, it's the most difficult decision to make apart from makin an oath in front of the altar , because, i have jumped from my rusty P990, a glittering E90 and the best thing in P1i only to find out, TYTN II is too hot to handle!

but i have never looked back since. the network switching you experienced, i could understand. i myself only set the phone to GSM mode when i am at work, just to make sure it doesn't go and try the 3G net where it's very weak in the place i work (rural area) hence, no calls will be cut off.

the about the SMS management, it ain't as good as the P1i, the only thing i missed was the application Magic SMS Manager for UIQ 3, where you can manage any incoming SMS and put them to the corresponding folders, this i don't and can't find it in WM device

but all good, i am quite happy with TYTN II

I had a full debranded Kaiser, no branded rom. It seems i'm not the only one in France to have some network issues, so maybe that's down to our local operator.

regarding sms, the phone couldn't handle the network drops during my last trip in train ; then i had to resend the sms manually, once it tried to send them and couldn't, they end up in drafts...and thus won't be sent when network is back again...that just stunned me.

The 2 mains points (besides software glitches) that made me return it are :
- Form factor : i just can't get used to the hidden keyboard, not the device fault
- Tytn is more a PDA with GSM functions in it than the opposite, and still i'm looking for a PHONE with advanced functionnalities.

I'm not so sure with wm6, yes you can do whatever you want, but that's so much time to spend on tweaking the device, i used to like that a few years ago, not anymore.

I'm probably missing something, but aren't most phones - including the P990 - the same? I'm sure on my M600i, if the send failed, the message would just sit in my outbox until I tried again... I didn't notice it ever resending automatically. Could it?
