I'm thinking of upgrading my current version of Windows Media Player 10 to Windows Media Player 11, but I remember I used to experience some problems with it when I used it a few months back. I think the music would stutter during playback and it also messed up the ID3 tags on mp3s. How is the latest version? Has anyone experienced any problems with it? Thanks!

Every version of widows media player I have had has messed about with and made a complete balls of my mp3 tags!!

But I try not to use it too much any more as it's stubbornness to do things the way it wants as oppose to how I want it really Pi**es me off!

Yes, wmp 11 can still mess up your tags if you don't set it / use it right

Winamp all the way for me! Especially now it includes the milkdrop2 visualisation in full desktop mode, absolutely stunning!

Thanks for the feedback so far guys, appreciate it. I'm running Windows XP, so I'm a little more concerned about how the latest version of WMP11 works on XP.

@Cyco, what would I need to do to avoid having WMP11 messing up my ID3 tags? Thanks! The only reason I'm considering WMP11 is that it looks better with my Zune desktop theme that I just downloaded a while back. But if it's got problems, I'd rather have a non-matching media player than one with bugs.



That's not my desktop, just googled the screenshot. Anyway, winamp works great then, I presume? Seeing that you're using it yourself, I'm pretty sure it doesn't hog resources eh, Cyco?

It has tons of free skins available too so you could easily find one to go with your desktop

Apparantly, the wmp idv tag quirk has a lot to do with the tinternet and 'advanced title formatting' or such like going wrong. You have to thoroughly check every setting you can find to do with title formatting and such like to stop it trying to look up the song on the internet and write the tags automatically. I can't be more specific because I haven't got wmp 11 available at the moment, but I'm pretty sure it's all to do with the advanced titles stuff.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, this info comes from a friend of mine (who knows what he's doing) so I can't vouch for it 100% Sounds about right to me though!

And it's pretty amazing how little resources winamp uses, I think I'll give it a shot, it looks like it would blend right in with the theme I'm using now. By the way, about the milkdrop2 visualisation you mentioned, is there a link to the download somewhere? Thanks!

Milkdrop2 comes included with the current winamp installer package You can download everything else via the main winamp site.

I perhaps ought to mention that whilst winamp is spyware and adware free, the installer will put a couple of web page shortcuts to 'free offers' on your desktop if you don't un-tick the options to do so during the setup program. Just delete them as normal if they do end up on there, they make no changes to your PC at all.

WMP 11 is good as my experiences told me. but the worst issue is that it eats CPU speed and my RAM up to 40Mb(not actually an issue to me as i have 768MB ram ) what i wanted to it was that it is easier to add pictures as album art than the v10
