Okay so "G" signifies a GPRS signal...what does "E" signify (in the same place - it replaces the G from time to time)

Yeah, it is EDGE. I have never seen the 'G'. I have service with AT&T and I always see the 'E' and I see '3G' when I am in a 3G area.
