Sony Ericsson today announced the MD300, a state-of-the-art business tool that allows busy professionals to quickly and easily connect their PCs or laptops to the internet whenever and wherever they need. The first Sony Ericsson Mobile Broadband product with a USB interface, the MD300 is simple to install and start up. It comes pre-installed with everything you need to go online, including PC software.
“The MD300 combines high data download speeds with simple installation and configuration, making it the ideal choice for busy professionals who demand no-compromise connectivity,” says Johan Tysklind, Marketing Director Mobile Computing at Sony Ericsson. “The MD300 is the first offering in our forthcoming portfolio of mobile broadband products that will combine Sony Ericsson’s dependability with a stylish form factor.”
As compact and easy to use as a USB memory stick, the Sony Ericsson MD300 is a mobile broadband modem that plugs into any standard USB port. With Microsoft Windows software and drivers built in, the card installs and configures itself when plugged in, making it a matter of seconds to get connected. Mac drivers will be available for download. The MD300’s simple, intuitive Wireless Manager interface makes using it a breeze. This PC interface will also enable instant access through a pre configured button to the PlayNow™ mobile entertainment experience from Sony Ericsson.
The MD300 is all you need to get your mobile office up-to-speed, whether you’re on a HSDPA, UMTS, EDGE or GPRS network anywhere in the world. It’s versatile enough to use with your laptop or desktop computer at home or in your hotel room, with its portfolio of accessories including the desk stand and USB extension cable.
The MD300 will be available in luxury black and metallic silver in selected markets from Q1 2008

heres a better pic from the press pack i got. it glows red when not connected, green when using GPRS, and Blue when conneced to HSPDA (up to 3.2Mbps)

Hi all,
All the data plans i have seen from T-Mobile and 3 that offer this service all include a free USB Modem and the prices from Voda and 02 are just to expensive so just who is meant to buy this then? instead of getting free unit with their data plan. Unless the UK operators pick this up instead of the units they currently give out seems a bit pointless to me.

i spoke to someone at SE last night and asked the same question.
apparantly they will be co-branding these in some countries, and giving people the option when buying them just like you have more than one phone in a shop you will soon have more than one USB HSPDA key to choose from and obviously there are a number of people that will choose an SE.

In Ireland all the operators that have mobile broadband charge you for the usb modem.
So it might be cheaper for someone to buy the modem by themselves.

Obviously but as i am in the UK that's all i can really comment on as i don't intend travelling the world to see what every country is doing, but as most of the Networks have a presence in more than just the UK. It is fair to assume that they would use the same devices although i realise not all territories do indeed carry all the same models this is slightly different and the point again is once Ericsson would of been first to market with a device like this now they come into it long after other solutions have already been out. Which disappoints me as where once they lead now they follow the are now longer innovators or market leaders. Even there new Music store that will launch in 6 months or so is behind Nokia's that is live now. IMO Sony have ruined Ericsson with cheap branding and marketing and a lack of true innovation.
