Does anyone know of one network that offers the P1 except O2? I am not so sure they have a bright future in the "smart phone" market in the UK.

I was waiting for Orange to get it as Ive been ten years with Orange contracts, I couldnt wait any longer so got one off ebay "pay as you go orange" Ģ229 I just put my sim in it and its ok, the only thing is I get no insurance so Ill have to be a bit carefull with this one.

Edit= Just tried my wifes t mobile sim and it works so it is network free also, thats a bonus and it was the cheapest i could find last week http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230185233612

Yeah, OR the others were all so burned by the p990 issues that they thought "Not going there again!". I dread to think how much the debacle of the 990 cost SE, not just in users but in network cred. Its not surprising that hardly anyone decided to stock the p1 when you look at how bad the problems with the 990 were.

I just hope that SE have learned some lessons, with nokia coming up with touchscreen devices that have proper touch feedback and an OS that has thousands of apps and a huge user base I really think SE have got to start innovating again, something they just haven't done with UIQ so far.

Log: I'm also looking at buying one of those P1i PAYG Orange phones off ebay as they are by far the cheapest. Is there any branding on the handset or in the firmware?

I did ask the seller if it was Orange branded before buying , he said no branding but is is simlocked to Orange. When i tried a T mobile sim it works so mine is network free also.
I think he may have to say it is tied in order sell at the lowest price but it is only registered to Orange by the simcard not the phone lock.
Mine came in an opened box which had already had the Orange sim fitted into the phone so there were a few fingerprints on it. It had old firmware on it which updated straight away to wg3.

and an OS that has thousands of apps

@pnf1973
donīt you mean millions???? s60 v3 chatalog comprises 340 apps, according to the my-symbian shop, UIQ3 is on 188 apps...so...be real

i agree the P990 afected SE smartphones image, but i canīt see how P1 failed any testing...if some operator is refusing it, its because they simply donīt even wanna test it, given the p990 experience...its up to SE to change their minds

No, i mean thousands. I'm actually surprised uiq3 had 188 apps, but thats not what i meant. I completely agree, SE have seriously damaged their image with the 990, and the level of app support just shows how bad SE are at supporting uiq3. I mean, they STILL haven't released a particularly full dev kit and api's for you to even develop new progs properly. Meanwhile Nokia make positive moves towards opening up s60 completely!

I honestly think that SE need to release something truly innovative, something as revolutionary as the p800 was. Come on SE! no more half efforts!
