Hi all. I was wondering if anyone could recommend a program that I could use to trim or edit pictures for use in themes creator. E.g. I have a png that I would like to be my desktop highlight. How can I get the white areas in the pic to be transparent in my png. I have a photo as my background picture and the white in the highlight spoils the look of my background. I hope you guys understand what I mean. Any help dearly appreciated! Please see that this pic when opened in ACDSee looks like a square. It would also be nice if I could only get the circular version of this icon.

Here the pic

Photoshop is the best program, but it'll cost you. Its not easy to get straight into and use though, as its a professional program. I use it for my design work and when I create themes.

To be honest, I can't think of an easy way to do what you want to do (for someone who has little or no experience with this type of program). Photoshop is what I recommend though.

I just went to check it and it doesn't seem to work... It says the file is not valid.

you have 2 options for free/share image editor - GIMP, fairly simple to
use and paint.net, not so straightforward

I use paint myself.

I agree with glorfingal. GIMP is a great image editor (for windows, apple and linux). I use it for al my picture and photo editing. And it's free! Check here, http://www.gimptalk.com/, and here, http://www.gimp.org/. I used photoshop in the past and I really don't need it anymore.
